Kate decided that this point both her and Sawyer should slip away. Perhaps to the assembly, perhaps not. Either way, the attack had given her reprieve from Ben and she intended to take the opportunity. She pulled Sawyer along with her, her hand gently squeezing his hand in a comforting way. If one looked closely enough at her as she left, they could see a glint of metal coming from her boots. Another hidden knife. She was not going to give up that easily.

The response Ben got from Sawyer was infuriating, but not exactly surprising - a grunt and a shrug. It was almost neanderthal in its simplicity, but Ben wasn't really concerned about it. Even if he wanted to do something about it, Kate was already leading Sawyer away.
Something small and shiny briefly caught the light from within her boots. Ben smiled to himself. So she had her own knife anyway. Kate would be an interesting opponent. Student. STUDENT. She was still his inferior, although she obviously held the belief that she could best him. Ben remembered another student who thought he could best him.
Ben returned to Ana. "Aren't you glad you don't have spectators anymore?" He let go of her wrist, hoping he didn't offend with his action. She'd been beating up another student - Ben felt his actions were completely justified in Ana's case. Kate's case, well, you know. He got his knife back, in either case.

Sawyer followed Kate willingly, a little surprise at how warm and comfortable she made him feel. He wasn't used to it at all, and he wasn't used to not wanting something specific from the girl. "So freckles, what was that I just had to save your ass from?" Not the best way to make her like him, but Sawyer couldn't help it. Arrogance was his nature. Plus, he didn't change for girls, they changed for him.
He looked back to see Ben breaking up the fight that had gotten them out of his way. It didn't look good for the girl at all. So far Sawyer had done a decent job of staying out of trouble like that, but he was sure the time was limited. He made a point to try and avoid Ben's wrath at all costs. There were plenty of other teachers who would give him a slap on the wrist and send him on his way. Ben would cut the whole damn hand off.

Kate smiled softly at Sawyer, "Freckles, huh? I think I like it." She said gently, brushing a stray piece of curly brown hair out of her eyes, looking back at Ben briefly. "He wanted me to give back his knife. And to go to some stupid assembly," she said plainly. By this point it was obvious that she was leading him away from the school and towards the beach. What the hell were these people on crack? Ana-Lucia shoved him away, as she attempted to take her arm back from him, despite him holding her wrist. "You talk to all your students like that?" the young woman observed the situation. Yep, it definitely sucked. Her hazel hues looked to where Benjamin was looking and spotted something small and shiny in Kate's boot. Who was she anyway? She didn't know her name, and didn't care. Wait a minute, wasn't that the kid she saw from the beach yesterday? Her gaze hardened and then narrowed on the two kids that moved away from them. "I'm not explaining myself to you." the tomboy said, slicking her hair back with a black elastic that she had around her wrist and created a ponytail.
"Who the hell are you anyway?" Cortez countered. She hadn't asked to be here, and once more, she'd never seen him. Perhaps it was because the girl always skipped the assemblies and such. Still, the guy that she had been kissing seemed to flee and fast. Ben. Ben was his name. The brunette glared.
"Well?"

Ana forced herself away from Ben, glaring daggers at him. Ben smirked. Another spitfire. Ben couldn't help but think that things would get crazy if Ana and Kate were to clash. Thoughts began to churn in Ben's head, trying to figure out a way to make that exact thing happen. But slowly. He didn't want to manipulate everyone to death in the first week.
"You talk to all your students like that?"
Ben smirked. "Only the ones stupid enough to beat up cheerleaders." Ben wondered how well that would go down with the already testy Ana. She was already acting closed-off, refusing to explain why she'd sucker-punched her blonde classmate, or why she wasn't at the assembly, not that Ben expected anything different. She was a rabble-rouser, a creature of instinct. There was a reason she was granted a scholarship, and it wasn't her grades.
"Who the hell are you anyway?"
"Well, Steve called me Ben, so I'm Ben," Ben responded. "Ben Linus. I don't really care what you call me." He narrowed his eyes, smile growing wider. "I get the feeling that I bother you. Or are you this... standoffish... in general?" The word was a major understatement, but telling Ana that she was freaking nuts would seem... what's the word... even more inappropriate than his talk of spectating.

Arching both brows as Cortez folded both her arms across her chest. "Oh, so now I'm stupid, huh?" the student eyed him, sizing him up and glared at him coldly. "So you're going to worry about me and some chick fight, but not worry about them for not only skipping the assembly and going off to do God knows what?" for a sixteen year old, Ana was pretty smart beyond her years. Some may call her an old soul, but there was more to her than just intelligence. "Unbelievable." the Hispanic beauty muttered underneath her breath. What kind of teacher was he anyway? Or was he the dean of this dump? Whatever, she liked the island. Was better than Los Angeles, LA really sucked. But this guy, was worse than LA and right now all she wanted to do was get out of the situation. And so, backing up once did the girl let her hands fall to her sides and began walking away from him in a grumble.
Yes, he'd be a fun one to deal with. But that kid...that kid that had gone off with that cheap brunette... something about him.

Ben crossed his arms, mimicking Ana's body language. That would probably irritate the young Latina. And it wasn't as if Ben didn't know that Kate and Sawyer were likely not going to get anywhere near the assembly. Did Ana really think that the matter concerned him that much?
"So you're going to worry about me and some chick fight, but not worry about them for not only skipping the assembly and going off to do God knows what?"
"Well, if they perform God knows what with each other, it'll be a school record. Quickest Resolution of Sexual Tension on the Island," Ben muttered. Something told him that Ana was more concerned about the "God knows what" than the lopsided punishment being meted out. "In all seriousness, though, they aren't scholarship students. You ARE." Ben's blank expression turned sour, and he frowned. "I knew I was in for trouble with those two. One of them's lucky no one found out about the murder. I have my own plan for them. You, on the other hand, are supposed to set an example for the other students."
The fact that beating up a girl was EXACTLY the kind of thing Ben wanted Ana to do went unmentioned. Lying is the most fun a boy can have without taking his pants off, after all.
Ana looked furious, murmuring a unbelieving "unbelievable" before moving to walk away. Ben's frown grew darker.
"If you think this is unbelievable, Ana-Lucia," Ben muttered, "you haven't seen ANYTHING yet."

"Really." saying it as a statement rather than a question. Ana-Lucia folded her arms across her chest as she had whirled to face him. "You may own this school, help kids..whatever. But I don't trust you." looking him in the eye. She had a feeling she wouldn't be the first to tell him that either. Ana wanted to scream to the roof tops that he was creepy.
Very creepy indeed. The teen pictured him just sitting at a throne of the island petting a rabbit. Why a rabbit? She wouldn't know. For some reason the words echoed in her mind. Everyone happens for a reason. So the reasoning being? Exactly. That's exactly what she had thought of Teresa, her mom when she had told her they were moving.
Well, she was moving. Teresa stayed back in the LAPD. Cortez frowned at the thought. She was alone here, alone with the rest of these kids... and her thoughts.
