It was a hard Friday, the classes were a pain the ass, especially latin, okay well it wasn't the class itself but more the teacher, Linus was just creepy and hard teacher. Juliet though was pretty easy on the eyes though she wasn't the softest teacher in the world either, and not to mention he got threatened to go to the head masters office like five times in three hours, but it was all finally over. Now Charlie had the rest of the day to do whatever he wanted, well within the island at least.
After stuffing a marker and finger bandages into his pocket Charlie exited his dorm and headed out of the building before entering the jungle. As he heard thunder Charlie groaned and threw his hoodie over his head before making his way to the destination he already had in his mind
Ten minutes later Charlie pushed through the last of the branches and stepped on the sand of the beach. He took his shoes off and walked along the edge of the water for a while, he looked up at the sky and smiled. It had been a whole twenty-four hours that he didn't use heroin and he liked it, he wanted to stop using completely and he would. After about half an hour to an hour of walking Charlie headed to a rock, he sat down and pulled out his finger bandages and marker.
As the thunder died down Charlie looked up but didn't take his hoodie off. Charlie slipped the finger bandages on each finger of his left hand, minus his thumb, and took the lid of the marker. Charlie extended his left hand and spread out his fingers before writing F on his pinky, A on his ring finger, T on his middle finger and E on his index finger. He closed the lid and looked at the word FATE.

Claire Littleton wasn’t entirely sure she should have come to Oceanic. Yes, she needed a change and needed to get away from Thomas, who had quickly spread the word that she was pregnant, although it had turned out she wasn’t, but still – this place was insane. The brochure had sounded nice but it was clear it had been too good to be true and now, all she wanted was to go home. Shitty thing was, her cell got no reception out here and there seemed to be no access to phones. She was literally stranded.
That being said, it was a beautiful island – the skies were blue, the water bluer and the jungle trees were green. It was a virtual paradise, or would be if the teachers weren’t nuts. Regardless, she was proving to live up to the honors student she’d always been and did her homework, wrote her notes, but stayed quiet, to herself. She survived the first week and was quite proud of herself for doing so. She toed off her shoes and hooked her fingers in the heel, stepping out on the sand of the beach. It was too beautiful a day to not be out there, and she wanted to soak up the sun as much as she could.
She walked along the beach until another person came into her line of sight. As she walked closer, she saw it was an older boy – who was pretty damn cute, but was staring at his hand. It was a little weird, and she recognized them as finger bandages. Laughing slightly, she looked at him and cleared her throat a little. “I hope you don’t mind my asking, but what on earth are you doing?” She asked, taking a seat next to him and offering him a small smile.
Upon seeing his hand, she could clearly see that he had FATE written across his fingers on the bandages. Interesting. She wasn’t entirely sure what it meant to him but it made sense to have the bandages on his fingers so he wouldn’t have to wash off the permanent marker, which was a bitch to wash off. She knew this from experience.

Hearing a voice in front of him, Charlie looked up from his hand and at the face of a fellow student. Charlie knew he had seen this student before because in the past 24 hours that he was "clean" he had checked her out more then once but before this moment he knew nothing about her.
As he heard her accent Charlie smiled as he realized she was Australian and not another American, he had heard a rumor about an Australian girl probably being pregnant but by the look of her she had no bun in the oven, then again he thought the Australian girl didn't exist since everyone seemed to be American, minus the Korean couple, he was pretty sure that guy couldn't speak English.
As he processed her question, Charlie glanced at his fingers and then back at the girl, who was now sitting beside him. He could see why it would seem weird to someone else but he had been doing this for so long that it was just normal, he never thought of why he was doing it though. After thinking about her question for about another second Charlie just shrugged slightly and said, while taking his hoodie off "I'm just writing fate on my hands" he noticed she was looking at his hand.
"To be honest I've been doing it for a while" he continued after a brief pause "and I do it on bandages because... well have you ever tried getting permanent marker off your skin... it's pretty bloody hard" he chuckled a little before continuing "I write stuff like fate, hope, love... pretty much anything positive that has four letters, I'd much rather be positive then negative" he smiles as he thought that made good enough sense considering he never had to explain it before.
Charlie looked out at the ocean, while hoping he hadn't scared her with the explanation. After a couple he seconds he looked back at the girl and extended his right hand to her to shake her hand "I'm Charlie... Charlie Pace" he said so as to finally introduce himself to the beautiful teen girl.

Claire smiled softly at the boy as she waited for an answer. As he spoke, she realized he had a British accent and was glad to know she wasn’t the only one who wasn’t American. There was the Korean couple, but they didn’t really speak English. She nodded. “It makes sense. And I know how it’s hard to get permanent marker off – one of my girlfriends decided to decorate my face once because I fell asleep first at a slumber party.” She laughed softly and looked at him as he spoke further. He seemed a little down to earth, which she liked. “I like that – it’s much better to be positive.” Claire smiled at him again and looked out at the ocean.
I’m Charlie…Charlie Pace
She turned her head back to him and smiled again. “I’m Claire Littleton. I’m from Sydney, Australia. What part of the UK are you from?” Claire asked softly. She’d been to England before. It was a beautiful place but way too rainy for her liking. Australia was the kind of weather she was not only used to but enjoyed. Claire noticed his rings and looked closer. “Those are cool.” She had a few rings herself but they were very girly – costume jewelry but still pretty looking nevertheless.
“So I’m glad the week is over. It’s pretty insane here.” She said, shaking her head. “I’m not so sure about this place anymore…”

Charlie laughed a little after Claire told him the story about her friend drawing on her face as she slept "that must have been weird to see when you first saw yourself in the mirror the next morning... how long did it take you to get off" he asked with quite an intrigued tone.
As she looked at him, he smiled and looked into her eyes before nodding once at her comment about it being better to be positive "you have a good point there, it is much better to be positive" he said with his smile still in place on his lips before also looking out to the ocean. "It's beautiful, don't you think?" he asked her with a gentle tone that seemed to fit the current mood.
As Charlie turned to look at her at her he heard that she introduced herself Charlie, so he extended a hand and smiled. "It's a pleasure to meet you Claire. I'm from Manchester" he replied after her question asking where he was from. As he followed her gaze to his rings, he smiled at her compliment (as his spun his DS ring on his finger) and said "thanks... yours are pretty cool too" he said as his gazed at her rings.
Charlie chuckled as Claire mentioned she was glad the weeks over and that it was pretty insane "I'm glad too and you're right it was, I just hope it gets a little easier from now on but I must say it's already gotten a lot better" he s aid with a smile to show that he was talking about being with her. Charlie looked around after he next comment and raised an eyebrow curiously "were you ever sure about this place?"
