Previously, on LOST...
At the Oceanic Private School, on a mysterious island in the middle of nowhere, a new batch of students has arrived. Leading these students are Jack Shepherd, an honors student whose destroyed relationship with ex-classmate Sarah and distaste for his father's alcoholism drove him to apply to the secluded school. Early on, Jack realizes that there's something seriously wrong with both the school and the island.
For one thing, the only students there appear to be the ones who arrived on Jack's plane. For another, the teachers seem intent on pitting the students against each other, or at the very least, making them mindless drones. But even if Jack could do something, his leadership is flimsy at best. James "Sawyer" Ford, a kid who basically came to the school to avoid juvenile hall, is in constant competition with Jack, mainly over school heartthrob and enigma Kate Austen. One of the teachers who just arrived, John Locke, appears to be on Jack's side, but rubs Jack the wrong way with his fanatical devotion to what he calls "the power of the island". Musician Charlie Pace is leading a growing faction that just wants to be rescued from the insanity. And everybody knows not to trust homeroom teacher Ben Linus... but they do anyway. To their ultimate detriment.
