Kate's hand that was slipped into Sawyer's give him a slight squeeze before she reclaimed that hand. She took a full on run towards the beach, pulling her hair out if it's messy bun and letting it fly free. She giggled loudly as the waves crashed against the shore, and as she stood upon the edge of the ocean, she began to strip off her outer layers. Left was just her underwear and if Sawyer passed by her clothes, he could see at least two knives peaking out of the pile. She screamed loudly as she entered the cold water and it enveloped her.
She smiled back at Sawyer. It was a completely genuine smile that should be infectious.

Sawyer followed Kate's lead, he had no other choice really. He didn't want another choice. Sawyer could hardly believe that he was in this situation, with a girl...who was now stripping. Suddenly his day was getting a whole lot better. "Damn Freckles." He said with a smile. He paused for the smallest of moments before stripping down himself. He noticed the knives in her clothing, which only made him all the more interested. There was something about this girl that was just...He couldn't put a finger on it.
Sawyer crashed into the water and looked over to where Kate was, splashing water at her playfully. He wasn't used to any of this, and he was sure that there had to be something off about this. These things just didn't happen to him, it was too perfect, enough to almost be fake, like it was scripted. He wanted to be suspicious, but couldn't be.

She splashed him back, swimming underneath the surface to grab one of Sawyer's legs playfully. She came back up gasping for air for a second, giggling loudly, her wet hair all in her face.
Kate smiled genuinely back at him, and could read that his face was full of unanswered questions, "I'm Kate. And I'm not here at this school by choice. So, whats your story?"

Sawyer grinned, having more fun that he thought he would. Part of it was Kate, part of it was getting out of Ben's grasp. Being anywhere but there would have made his day better. Kate was just the added bonus. A big added bonus. Maybe this island deal wasn't as bed as he had been thinking it was.
Still, didn't mean she got to know all of his secrets. He didn't get this far by being sucked in by every pretty face. It had almost worked once, but not quite. If anyone had a chance at getting to hi, it would be Kate. "Here by choice enough." He paused, hoping that it would be good enough for her, though something told him it wouldn't be. "So what'd they throw you in there for sweetheart? One to many knives in your pockets?"

Kate just smiled gently at him, deciding not to push any further on the issue of his past. "That doesn't mean I'll let him in on mine, though," she thought to herself, and her smile became a bit more sly.
"Something like that..." she said before disappearing below the ocean's depths. She swam a bit away from him, lingering there just below the surface. She had done this a lot when she was a little girl, she had always loved to test her own limits. Once she had actually knocked herself unconscious and she remembered how hard she was hit after the medical bills came. However, currently, she was testing him. Seeing if she could trust him. Testing the waters.

Damn, apparently she wasn't falling for it. She would though, he was just going to have to give it time. For now he would settle. It wasn't important for him to know anything about her yet. Sooner or later though, he was going to figure her out, he always did. "Don't seem so scary to me." He smiled at her, watching as she dove under the water. Not sure what her next move would be he waited for her to come up. She didn't. Either she was toying with him or something was going wrong. He hated to think he was being screwed with, but it scared him to think of something happening to Kate.
He waited just a few seconds longer before diving under after her. Spotting her lurking under the surface. She was fine, he was just being tested. He reached under and attempted to pull Kate to the surface. "What the hell are you playing at?"

Kate giggled, a big smile on her face despite the fact that she was still trying to regain her breath and that her heart beat was unnaturally slow, "The same thing that you are."
She rested her head on his shoulder as she continued her struggle to regain her breath. "I can trust him," she thought to herself, her smile falling from her face.
"I killed someone," she whispered softly to him, "That's why I'm here."

Sawyer didn't think she had it in her. Everyone knew Kate liked to play with the big boys, but he hadn't expected that. A million responses ran through his head. Each one seemed a little bit more inappropriate than the last, not that appropriate had ever been his first concern. Still, he wasn't the share and care sort of guy usually. "Damn. You sure he wasn't just indulging you?"
It wasn't a very good thing to say. Not then, but by the time he realized that he had already said it. "It's not so bad here, is it?" He softened, wondering just how bad it was that someone had shipped her off here. Maybe she had killed someone, but could she really be as bad as him, or any one of the people getting hauled away for murder? He stood still in the water, very aware of the space between them and waited for a response.

Kate took her body away from his, surprised at his cold, initial response, but what had she expected? For him to listen, to care. No. He wanted to be hated, and she intended to give him what he wanted. She refused to look him in the eyes as she retreated to the beach. Carefully watching her steps. She shook her head as she walked, anger building inside of her.
"Goodbye, Sawyer. Hope you enjoy being alone," she said, childishly trying to hurt him with her words. She was upset and trying to hold back tears as she pulled her clothes over her wet body. Doing a quiet check for her usual four knives. It serves her right for thinking she could talk to anyone.
'I've got to be the tough one," she whispered to herself as she pulled on her heeled boots, wiping away one single tear. She finally decide to respond to his last words before beginning to walk away, "For a second, I thought it wasn't."

Sawyer rubbed his eyes and forehead for a minute, trying to comprehend just how badly he had screwed up. It was his own fault, he knew that, but he wanted to take back what he had said. He hadn't meant it really, he was just...being an ass. That was a terrible excuse, but he knew it was true. There were times when he didn't think he could help himself. He was just bad at being civil, let alone friendly. But this had been going so good.
It took him longer than it should have to realize how badly he had offended Kate. Still, Sawyer didn't give up that easily. He trudged out of the water and onto the beach before Kate could make her escape. He sighed before speaking, trying to choose his words carefully. "I'm sorry Freckles..." He tried to find something else to say, but worried that he would do something stupid again. It wouldn't be the first time. One way or another, he was going to win her back over though. He liked the little brunette, she was complicated, but might just be worth it.

Kate just looked at him for a second, half surprised that he even bothered to come after her. Her eyes softened as she threw herself into the sand, looking at the ocean. Her beautiful eyes seemed fixated on some faraway point, and again, she felt like a caged animal.
"I just- GOD!" she yelled, trying not to cry again, "I just want to open up. But I can't, and you just proved that to me." She shook her head, burying her face in her hands, "Why? Do you want me to hate you?"

Sawyer sighed. She was one to ask the tough questions. He didn't like it. Except for the parts where he did. Everything was all...fuzzy. Sawyer was a simple guy overall. He knew what he wanted, he did what he had to to get that. It meant lying a lot of the time and he was okay with that. But he didn't like the idea of lying to Kate. She was fragile, or and sweet. Sawyer knew that most of the things he had done or planned to do would be the same as anything Kate could even imagine, or worse.
For some reason, looking at her, he didn't want to lie. The best thing to do would just be to avoid anything that could make his say something personal. That way it all worked out for the best, or the closest to it possible. "I don't want anyone to hate me freckles, but I ain't going to act like the worlds made up of butterfly coated rainbows." Sawyer had never been an optimist.

Kate laughed out of exasperation, sighing softly as she wrapped her arms around herself and rubbed her arms. She looked at him with her beautiful eyes, they seemed deeply sad, and lonely. Her voice was hushed and barely a whisper, "I know. But you could've at least acted like you cared. Even if you didn't."
She put her hands on either side of herself and pushed up, getting her self out of the sand. She felt it all over and cursed herself for sitting in it when she was wet. She needed a shower, she felt dirty, she was dirty. A bad person. She knew it. She retreated towards the school, whispering softly to him, "Goodbye, Sawyer."

"Of course I care, can't have people wanderin' around killing people can we?" And there was the jackass thing again. It was a reflex. A very bad reflex, but he knew it would always be around. Sawyer always said what needed to be said, but there was also a good deal that didn't need to be said, but that didn't stop him. Boundaries were more like slight recommendations that he chose to ignore more often than not. Still, he was pissed off now. It was a dramatic subject, but the rapid change of mood had left him on edge and off his game.
Sawyer could be charming most of the time, in his own way. It had been working up until now. Now he was just digging himself a grave. Bad choice of thinking too. Thinking led to saying which led to an angry Freckles. He knew she felt bad about it, no matter what the circumstance. Sawyer truly believed that Kate was a good person, and nobody walked away from a death guilt free. Not even him, king of the apathetic. He opened his mouth to try and make amends again, but nothing quite made it out. Apparently he wasn't going to swallow his pride.

Kate continued to walk up the beach, toward the school and away from him. Her feet felt so heavy and it took all she had to not just throw herself into the ocean and let herself sink. She couldn't believe she had trusted him, couldn't believe she had told him anything. And so, she decided it was best not to say anything back. It wouldn't do either of them any good, just push her back into crying territory. She didn't want to cry in front of him again. She didn't want him to see her vulnerable ever again. She felt like he had seen her naked, and she didn't like. She didn't like that he had been able to slip past her defenses. And she didn't like that she had let him do so, especially not that easily. She was better than that. And suddenly she thought better of her silence, feeling like she need to say one last thing.
"You're an asshole. I made a mistake thinking you're anything but..." she yelled to him, as by now, she was a considerable distance from him. She wished her would think about what he had done, but seriously doubted it. He didn't seem like he thought at all.
